Canada is a liquor fortress - nothing gets in, nothing goes out - unless its done by government and taxed accordingly.
Zunak wrote:Regrets.... I've had a few...lol. Most prominent is the Octomore Orpheus. Got one that was an overstock from the vintages pre order. Had a chance to buy a second one in Manitoba but had not opened the first one yet. (Didn't open it for almost a year). Now that I have tried it I regret not buying the other one as it seems to be gone forever from my sources.
dbk wrote:Glad you finally tasted and enjoyed the Orpheus, Zunak! It's a pretty spectacular whisky. You can at least console yourself that it will take some time before you finish your bottle; it's far too heavy and rich to drink at any quick pace. I've been savouring my bottle for many months.

Orpheus is not the same as the one below, is it?

From what I'm seeing, it was released later and now not as easily available?? Just want to clarify.
And if so, would the above release 2 be a close comparison?

No sorry Bebdo. The one I am speaking of is the Orpheus 2.2 which is matured in Chateau Petrus casks. The one you are linking to is more similar to Ardbeg Supernova, which is still an amazing dram. The Orpheus is quite a different animal.

Sorry, Aidan, this link is of no practical use to Canadians.
Thanks though.

I received one as a surprise early Xmas gift from my next door neighbour on the same night that the store sold three GSP's to one woman buying them for her whisky friends. I suspect the GSP ended up being 'THE' Christmas whisky to give/receive this year in Ontario. I have quite enjoyed it so far.

I have a confession to make: this very whisky got me interested in Ch. Petrus and all the other (more affordable for me) wine from Pomerol in Bordeaux. The rest is history
bebdo wrote:Orpheus 2.2 - talked a buddy at work to pickup one in NJ $139 - it's in my hands right now. Looks nothing like a bottle of scotch - from the bright tin to the bottle which looks like a shampoo bottle. And it is heavy and much taller than regular bottles - my buddy was complaining that he had to tuck it in diagonally in the small bag he carried and also check-in the bag! Oh well,I owe him one ...

bebdo wrote:Zunak, if it wasn't for your post here I wouldn't have been on my radar.
Btw, not sure - think it was Mongo who posted that The Party Source in KY had it too and Tali18 for ~65. I tried to order it online from there and ship it to my cousin in Buffalo - their system would not allow anything besides US in the billing address section and when I called them to see if they would take the card number over the phone they declined. It drove me mad and I said I'm going get my hands on one of these suckers one way or another!!
I've been shipping stuff from ShoppersVineyard to Buffalo for a couple of yrs now - but couple of weeks back they stopped shipping spirits without giving any reason. While I was looking for other sources in NJ I came across this place called liquoroutletwinecellers. They also don't ship spirits but they had the Orpheus in stock and just so happened that my buddy was down on work about 15 mins from the store! I'm not sure what's up with NJ stores not shipping spirits anymore - anyone here been using stores there? Can someone here suggest another online store with good prices/selection.
Zunak - know u get lap18 from PA liquor stores - beleive they have it on sale for ~$60.
