On-Line Auction

http://vintages.waddingtons.ca/auctions ... r_type=ASC

Lot#/Item/Opening bid
192. Macallan-Glenlivet 40yo $1,200
193. Macallan 1964 $500
194. Macallan 1972 $300
195. Glen Grant 25yo $100
196. Knockando 1965 $300
197 Glenfarclas 21yo + 30yo $150

Very little info on the bottlings (age for the vintage bottles?, when were they bottled?, abv?, original packaging included?). Many more brandies/cognacs than whisky!!! Available for shipping only in Ontario and foreign countries where alcohol import is legal.

While not giving much info they put this clause in the terms and conditions:
While the auctioneer has endeavored to catalogue and describe correctly each lot to be sold, guarantee is not made of the correctness of the catalogue or other descriptions of the physical condition, fitness for use, rarity, quality, portability, size, importance, authenticity, attribution, provenance and/or historical relevance of any lot, and no statement anywhere shall be deemed such a warranty, representation or condition, and no sale will be set aside on account of any imperfections not noted. Each lot is sold "as is", "where is" and without recourse.

Has the LCBO ever done one of these before?
Any info on this one?

No. But I may be interested in another one if I can get more info. I e-mailed Waddington's for info ...

I just stumbled on the auction tonight after seeing it mentioned in the upcoming vintages catalogue.
I also heard a customer asking about it last week at the Summerhill tasting tower - the employee knew nothing about it.

I saw it too. Intersting. Do you know who can sell on those auctions? Is it only LCBO/Vintages stuff?

It appears this is an LCBO Vintages auction conducted by Waddingtons - the e-mail I received in response to a question came from an LCBO employee. That being the case, I'm not sure where the product came from. Maybe it's a private collection and due to alcohol laws in Ontario has to be sold with the blessing and/or through the regulator?

Less than one hour to go.
The Glenfarclas lot (21yo, 30yo) is up to $650, $760 including the buyers premium, and if the buyer is in Ontario $860 with the HST :-o

People sure act in strange ways during auctions

21yo $120
40yo $540
200 Bucks less and you get the 40yo - arguably a better whisky than the 30.

Makes no sense, unless, the buyer is a collector that does not intend to drink the stuff.
