Too bad I don't live in MA - I would have been happy to give it to you! Everyone I shared it with disliked it - it was only "good" as a mixer.

Now that is peculiar. I'm thinking either all your friends are peat and/or sherry heads, or you got a bum bottle.

It had a bees waxy, honey, too sweet taste & bitter/harsh ending - it reminded me of a cheap blend - like Cutty Sark (I'd rather have the Cutty Sark!). I do not like sweet whiskey & the bitter edge was really unpleasant. Mixing it w/really tart lemon juice helped cut the wax & disguised the sweetness. It was just very strange & left me scratching my head about the fuss over Old Pultney. I kept going back to it & thinking it would get better - it didn't. It was my first & probably last bottle of OP.

To each his/her own I guess - more of it for all you who like it. :P

Mr TH:
I don't really care for sherry monsters - a little sherry goes a long way w/my palette. I do like peat but I like many whiskies w/no peat too. The friends I shared w/ are similar (not sherry heads) but probably like peat less than me.

Well, yes, to each his own, and there isn't any real point in arguing about it. The characteristics you describe are what I like about it, although I wouldn't call it really sweet, or bitter/harsh.

Auchentoshan Three Wood - didn't last long. Quite enjoyed it but it seemed to fade a bit and begin to disintegrate slightly over the final third.

Wouldn't say I didn't like it but it just wasn't as good as the first two thirds of the bottle. Only open a few weeks so can't see why it should have changed so much. Would not buy another one.
