The original full sized bottle that started my cabinet, the Glen Breton 10 yo, was finally put down this past week. This was an odd bottle that had a bitter note plague it from the 1/2 to 1/4 full marks. However, the last 1/4 of the bottle rebounded, losing the bitter note. The malty/woody/stone fruit (mainly peach) profile that I took from it was not really to my liking, though others who have sampled from my bottle have held it in higher esteem.
The last dram of the GB 10 was compared with a sample of Glen Breton Ice 17 yo. The nose of the GB Ice seemed to be dominated by the icewine cask that was used to finish the whisky (for about four months, as best as I could tell), but the palate/finish seemed to benefit nicely with the finishing...smoothing out and slightly sweeting the overall profile. Is it worth Can$45 for a 250 mL bottle? I don't think I would go that far, but the smaller bottle makes it easier to pick some up as a once in a while curiousity.

The wishlist is always growing...
