No. I went to the home page, typed "snow phoenix" in the search box, and that's what came up.

The whisky is very nice but why does it need that gigantic tin? What a waste of packaging, space and money.

Maybe it should be a campaign for no colouring, chill-filtration, or unnecessary packaging.

How come everybody's so keen on Fiddich all of a sudden? Only because the warehouse crashed? If the good people at Glenfiddich had knocked down the warehouse roof themselves in order to create a buzz it would have to be called a brilliant publicitiy stunt ;) If not, they surely have made the best of a bad situation.

Please note this is NOT a rare/limited whisky by any stretch of the imagination. I asked Glenfiddich about the number of bottles involved and whilst I cannot remember the exact number, it certainly was a vast amount, and certainly far far more than I had anticiptated

It's all just gossip so far, somewhere between 600 and 60,000 bottles.

Are Glenfiddich guilty of gossip-mongering i wonder?

Blimey, Willie, some people are never happy, eh? We give you NCF, natural coloured and higher strength and then you moan about packaging. ;-)

One of the most wonderful things about Snow Phoenix, packaging and all, is that it appeals to almost every type of potential buyer - whisky geeks (like us), collectors (again, some of us), drinkers (hmmm, us again) and gifters (well, I'd gift it if I could get it!!!). And the packaging is hardly making it a waste of money at £49.99 RRP!

Slainte,
Jamie.

And to add a few other thoughts...

Availability
Hope everyone who wants a bottle is able to find one. But, please, we really want Snow Phoenix to be bought, opened and drunk - so buy it, open it and drink it. It's a stunning Glenfiddich (sorry Mark - I know you hate that word...but it really is!). If you really want to keep one, then buy two - it's unbelievably good value considering the liquid spec.

Just to help sort out some of the confusion regarding quantities in the UK - the initial batch is 600 3 bottle cases - ie 1800 bottles. Recent weather hasn't helped us to get bottles and whisky to and from bottling halls, but we're obviously doing everything we can to get it to retailers as quickly as we can. Please be understanding - there's a lot of snow in Dufftown again and we'd really like to avoid Snow Phoenix II...

We are also trying to secure some additional stock for the UK to help meet the unexpected demand, but it may not be available to us for a while. Certainly not before Christmas.

Tasting Notes
In terms of flavour and comparison to 15yo Distillery Edition. Mouthfeel is similar, although I think the slightly lower abv of the Snow Phoenix (47.6%) makes it feel smoother and stickier, where the 15DE (51%) is a bit "hotter". The 15DE to my palate is also a lot more spicy, like black pepper, where Snow Phoenix is soft, rounded and fruity.

Snow Phoenix is a marriage of 13-30 year old Glenfiddich, rather than a single-age variant, and Brian Kinsman, our Malt Master, selected each cask to give a unique contribution to the profile. What you get is a sort of Glenfiddich smorgasbord - fresh pear (like 12yo) from the younger casks, honey (like 15yo), baked apple (like 18yo), dark chocolate, coffee and floral notes (like 30yo) and a healthy whack of vanilla on top! As you can imagine, it's very complex. And the finish goes on and on.

Videos
A wee shout out to John Lee - nice to meet you at TWS in London. And thanks for doing the whiskypod for us. Here are the v-pods:
John: http://www.connosr.com/whiskypod/video/tws206/
Adam from GWC: http://www.connosr.com/whiskypod/video/tws236/
And yours truly: http://www.connosr.com/whiskypod/video/tws201/

I'm now officially on holiday till 4th January, but I'll be keeping an occasional eye on a few forums and blogs and may even reply...

Have a great Christmas everyone, and a happy, healthy and successful 2011.

Slainte!
Jamie.
