Caol Ila Moch

Postby kallaskander » 16 Dec 2010, 13:40

Hi there,

have you heard about a new Caol Ila called "Moch", dawn?

Could well be a botling for Germany, Austria and Switzerland as it is only shown on

http://www.premium-spirits.com/caol-ila-moch-de-2.html

or on the German platform of Malts.com

It is rumoured that it is 8-10 yo.

Here the German tasting note.

Anhaltend rauchiger Nachgeschmack."

Greetings

Yes, this one struck me as well as it was featured in the latest FOCM pamphlet thas was sent to me last week. And I couldn't find anything about it on the net yet.

This is interesting but there's nothing appearing in the UK about it so it may be a continental exclusive. I want to try it NOW!

I can get you all some bottles but consider the horrendous shipping cost for shipping the stuff (i) from Islay to Mainland Scotland and then from (ii) Mainland Scotland to Mainland Europe and (iii) back from Mainland Europe to y'all dudes. Goes without saying that a little something for my efforts would add up to the final bill :D

Does anyone think this includes Ireland too? I'll be over there at the end of next month and want to come back with something nice ;)

Coincidentally, with it being payday and all, the cork seems to have fallen out of that bottle of Moch that was on my desk ;)

I really like it. It's definitely lighter in style than I remember the 12yo (and the word is that Moch will be around the same price), but it hasn't fallen into the Blasda trap - it's satisfyingly peaty all the way to the finish, and at 43% it's very moreish. In these drinkaware times, one would hesitate to say 'morning whisky', but... well, sometimes I love my job, put it that way

Think Diageo might have a hit on their hands here.

Is it not worrisome that Caol Ila/Diageo has created a NAS version to be sold at the same price as the 12yr? How long before the 12yr is either phased out or doubles in price?
